Learn the history of cotton fiber.

Yarn is needed to make cloth. And the fibers or fibers used as raw material in making yarn are called textile fibers. Many types of fiber are currently being used in the textile industry. Some of these fibers are found naturally and have been used since the invention of fabric. The most widely used of the natural fibers is cotton. It is also called natural cellulose fiber.

The origin of the word cotton from the Arabic word. Turning the pages of history, the tradition of cotton fiber is very rich and ancient. From the consensus of various historians and botanists about the earliest period of cotton cultivation, it can be deduced that the first cotton cultivation in the Indian subcontinent started 3,000 years BC. Cotton cultivation has also been practiced in Mexico from 3,500 BC and in 500 BC in South America.

According to historians, the use of cotton first started in the Mediterranean and Arab countries. Egypt may have won first place. Britain, known as the pilgrimage site of modern civilization, was lagging behind. Later, after the Industrial Revolution, cotton was first used in Britain from the orthodox of 1,300 centuries, about 800 years ago. The use of cotton in America began much later, in the late 1,700s. The widespread use of cotton worldwide dates back to the discovery of the method of mechanically making yarn from fiber. Not only this, with the advent of modern technology of textile dyeing, printing and finishing with the increasingly advanced technology of making yarn and cloth mechanically, the versatile use of cloth has become so inevitable that in today's developed world no aspect of human welfare can be considered apart from the use of cotton. In all countries of the world, people of all classes have been using cotton cloth and other cotton products.

Cotton cultivation in Bangladesh:

Apart from the fine fibers of muslin, other types of cotton that were already grown in Bangladesh are classified as "Gossipium-Arborium". It was usually called Comilla Cotton. There are three common trade names for this cotton, namely, Langunia, Dola and Chakuria. The cultivation of this Comilla cotton is still prevalent in the hill areas of Comilla and Chittagong. The quality of this cotton produced is very low and the fiber length is not more than half an inch. As a result, no yarn was made from them in the same way. In the native tradition, they were mostly used for spinning and spinning.

The cotton that is currently being produced commercially in Bangladesh is mainly American. In the beginning, regular cotton cultivation system was introduced in our country by importing seeds from America. Later in Bangladesh, the Cotton Development Board brought cotton seeds from different countries and hybridized them locally to produce different varieties of cotton seeds. Cotton produced in the country has improved a lot in terms of yield and quality. The length, color and maturity of these cotton fibers are quite good. It is possible to make yarn up to 60s count without any other combination using long fiber cotton from Meherpur, Jiban Nagar etc. centers. As a result, the amount of cotton production in Bangladesh is increasing day by day.
