Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswamy has said that the tourist visa will be introduced from November 15.
He was responding to a question from reporters at Akhaura Land Port Immigration in Brahmanbaria on his way back to his country India by road from Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
He also said that single entry tourist visa will be introduced first. Just have to go by plane. Cannot stay more than 30 days. Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswamy also said that visa facilitation would be facilitated by land and rail in phases.
Asked about the issue of communal harmony, the Indian High Commissioner said relations between the two countries were better than ever. We are satisfied with the steps taken by the Government of Bangladesh regarding communal harmony.
He also spoke about the complexities involved in the construction of the Akhaura immigration building on the border between the two countries.
Regarding the problems in the construction of Akhaura-Agartala railway, the Indian High Commissioner said that the work was stalled due to the complexity of payment of the contractor. However, discussions are underway at the foreign ministry level of the two countries. He hopes that this problem will be solved soon.
Earlier, Akhaura Land Port welcomed the Indian High Commissioner at the zero line of the two countries, Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Romana Akter and officials of the two countries including the officer-in-charge of the police station Mizanur Rahman.
He is scheduled to return to his workplace in Dhaka on November 13.
